We've achieved Millie's Mark!

Our Dagenham Village nursery has successfully been awarded ‘Millie’s Mark’ by the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) in association with the Department for Education and Millie’s Trust!

“Millie’s Mark is an exceptional achievement for a childcare setting, as it shows they are going above and beyond minimum requirements in keeping children safe.”

This is a quality mark for nurseries which recognises that we go above and beyond the minimum requirements to keep children safe and minimise risks and accidents at nursery.

We do this by having 100% of staff trained in paediatric first aid, and also ensuring that everything learnt during training is kept in the forefront of practitioners’ minds so that they are confident, ready and capable.

We were was tested on:

- 100% of staff working with children being Paediatric First Aid Trained

- Strong delivery of first aid training and understanding.

- Managing risks such as choking at mealtimes, food allergy and intolerances awareness

- Process for monitoring and managing day-to-day risks

- Safety during sensory play

- Management of accidents at the setting, including measures to minimise and prevent them.

- The number of first aid kits, its contents and re-stocking.

The Millie’s Mark award is named after Millie Thompson, who sadly died after choking on food at a nursery in 2012 when she was just nine months old. Read more at www.milliesmark.com/about-us

As a parent, placing your child in a nursery that is endorsed with Millie’s Mark provides reassurance that all childcare practitioners know what to do in a paediatric first aid situation.

After 12 months of working towards this goal, we are delighted that our efforts have been rewarded with the achievement of this special award.

However, now that we are an official Millie’s Mark awarded nursery our hard work of continuously developing our quality care and education will not stop, and we will continue to work hard to maintain and develop this level of excellence in our provision.
